Urban Quarry’s 2025 Year in Review

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a year full of growth, connections, and memorable milestones. From award-winning projects and new technology to community involvement and team bonding, this year has given us plenty to celebrate.

Shop & Industry Highlights

A big focus for us this year was continuing to invest in tools and technology that support our team and keep our work running smoothly. One of the biggest upgrades was the installation of our new JAVELIN CNC Saw from Park Industries. It’s already made a noticeable difference in precision and workflow, helping us deliver consistent results.

On the product front, porcelain continued to gain traction in 2025. Its durability, versatility, and design possibilities made it a popular choice across the industry, offering homeowners and designers fresh options for creating stylish, practical spaces. We’re looking forward to seeing how this and other trends continue to evolve in 2026!

Award-Winning Projects

2025 was a memorable year for industry awards, and we were incredibly proud to celebrate some standout achievements with our partners. Urban Quarry was honoured to be named a finalist across 10 projects at the GOHBA Housing Design Awards Gala. Among this year’s nominations, we were proud to take home the award for the following project: Custom Kitchen (176–250 sq. ft.) – Contemporary – “Past Meets Present,” created in collaboration with Nathan Kyle Studio and HanStone.

This recognition reflects the creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration that go into every project. We’re grateful to work alongside such talented industry partners and clients who bring these visions to life.

Sponsorship & Community Engagement

This year gave us many opportunities to stay connected with our community and support the events that help shape our industry. We were proud to participate in and sponsor several initiatives throughout 2025, each one offering a chance to collaborate, learn, and celebrate the work happening across the city.

We were honoured to sponsor two awards at this year’s One of One Awards: Most Fearless Material and Most Uncommon Design. These categories shine a light on bold, innovative creators, and it was a privilege to help recognize the visionaries pushing boundaries in Ottawa.

We also had the pleasure of hosting HanStone’s Colour Launch Event, where the brand unveiled six new porcelain surfaces and two additions to their quartz collection.

Across the industry, we continued to support events that bring people together, including:

We also continued our support of women in the trades. Members of our team attended OCA-WIC (Ottawa Construction Association – Women in Construction) events and also participated in the Home Depot Premier Pro: Women Build Panel, helping to uplift and celebrate women across the industry.

Team Gatherings & Events

Our team remains at the heart of everything we do, and 2025 offered plenty of opportunities to come together. Throughout the year, we hosted our monthly employee lunches, generously supported by our trusted vendors, including Cambria, Allie Holtby, Randy Harrison of Randy Harrison Financial Services, and more. These lunches are always a great way to connect, share updates, and enjoy time as a team.

Beyond the shop & showroom, we kept the tradition of team outings alive with several fun events:

  • A night out at the Ottawa Titans game
  • Cheering on the Ottawa 67’s
  • Our 4th Annual Paintball Adventure at Commando Paintball, where the team split into the ROCKstars vs. the Quartz Crushers (with the ROCKstars taking the win this year!)

Looking Ahead to a Milestone Year

With 2026 just around the corner, we’re getting ready to celebrate a major milestone: Urban Quarry’s 40th Anniversary! It’s a moment that means a lot to us; four decades of growth, craftsmanship, and partnerships we’re incredibly proud of. We’re excited to honour this milestone throughout the coming year and look back at the many people and projects that helped shape who we are today.
