2024 Round Up | Year in Review

What a year it’s been for Urban Quarry! As 2024 wraps up, we’re taking a moment to celebrate a truly remarkable year full of milestones. From industry awards and new partnerships to growing our talented team, this year has been filled with meaningful moments. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights:

Showroom & Shop Updates 

2024 brought exciting changes to both our showroom and shop. In the showroom, we made several impactful updates:

  • Installed 20 large-format vertical slab displays to showcase a wider variety of our materials
  • Transformed former office space into a modern, glass-enclosed meeting room
  • Revamped our fireplace surround with a sleek, contemporary design using Dekton ultra-compact surfaces, adding a framed TV to complete the look
  • Refreshed our kitchen display, replacing the old Cambria Brittanicca with the newer Oakleigh design, featuring a waterfall edge, new sink, faucet, and hardware for a modern touch

In the shop, the most significant upgrade was the addition of our new JAVELIN™ CNC Sawjet by Park Industries—a dual-table, high-precision machine that enhances our efficiency and capacity. Along with this, we elevated our slab staging area with improved lighting, creating a better experience for customers during their in-person slab viewing appointments.

Award-Winning Projects

2024 was an outstanding year for recognition. At the GOHBA Annual Housing Design Awards, we were finalists in fourteen categories and proudly took home three awards. We are grateful for the chance to collaborate with exceptional partners on these award-winning projects:

  • Custom Kitchen – 176 to 250 Sq. Ft. Traditional: “Project Downtown Darling Kitchen” with West of Main
  • Custom Kitchen – 251 Sq. Ft. or more Traditional $100,001 and Over (John Laurysen Memorial Trophy): “Project Inside Out Kitchen” with West of Main
  • Custom Bathroom – 101 Sq. Ft. or more Traditional: “Project Inside Out Bathroom” with West of Main and Cedar Ridge Custom Cabinetry

It was a memorable evening for the Ottawa housing industry, and we’re honoured to have contributed to these successful projects.

Sponsorship & Giving Back

This year, we proudly supported several community and industry events. One of the highlights was sponsoring the 2024 RenoTour Parade, organized by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA). The event featured seven beautifully renovated homes across Ottawa, with virtual 3D tours allowing everyone to experience the designs remotely. This partnership helped us stay connected with the local community while supporting innovative home projects.

We also co-sponsored The National Kitchen and Bath Ottawa Dinner Meeting alongside our valued partner, Laminam North America. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals and design leaders, further strengthening our industry relationships.

Staff Gatherings & Events

2024 also offered many opportunities to strengthen our team through gatherings and events. We’re grateful for the continued support from our trusted vendors, including Cambria, HanStone, Silestone by Cosentino, and others, who sponsored monthly employee lunches and gave us the opportunity to connect on upcoming projects and product launches.

Beyond our lunches, we hosted several team-building activities, including paintball nights and baseball games. A standout event was the garden tea party we co-hosted with Laminam, bringing together designers and dealers to exchange ideas and learn more about Laminam’s luxurious porcelain surfaces.

Looking Forward

As we wrap up 2024, we want to express our gratitude for the growth, recognition, and opportunities that this year has brought.
